Discovery Groups

Discovery groups
Discovery Groups are supportive groups of committed Christians who meet regularly, either in someone’s home or on-line, to learn more about the Christian faith.
Together the group decides on a topic, select bible study material, and come together for prayer and discussion in a safe and caring environment.
Listening and reflecting on the bible reading, sharing insights and experiences brings the scriptures alive and relevant in today’s world.

Memory Club
This is designed for people living in the community who are experiencing memory loss of signs of dementia. It is held on the second and fourth Thursday afternoon each month from 2.15-4.15pm. See below for more details.
Memory Club
Newport Pagnell Memory club is for people experiencing memory loss, dementia, or cognitive impairment. Our target audience is those living in the community in their own homes and managing with some support from others. The sociable, friendly atmosphere has proved popular and it's now in its 8th year of operation.
The aim of the club is for members to enjoy themselves and let their strengths and abilities flourish. We provide stimulating group activities to build confidence and be a place where members can support each other to continue to live as well as possible.
We encourage people to attend without their carers; while carers enjoy a short break, members can obtain enhanced self-esteem as a result of doing something independently.
Our team of volunteers are dementia aware and trained in safeguarding; they offer a safe, warm, and welcoming environment and are on hand to assist throughout. We provide light refreshments and ask carers to let us know of any dietary restrictions. We ask for a donation of £2 per meeting. The Memory club meets at The Brooklands Centre, Ousebank Street, Newport Pagnell on the second and fourth Thursday afternoon each month from 2.15-4.15pm.
We are part of the community outreach of Newport Pagnell Parish church; the church provides us with important administrative and insurance support. Contact: Hazel Reynolds on 07518 412 389 or email
hazel_reynolds@hotmail.co.uk. Hazel can often suggest additional sources of support to families affected by dementia.

We pray as the Spirit moves us, thanking God for his many blessings, interceding for people we know, for those who have asked for our prayers and for those we don’t know facing danger, trouble or distress wherever they happen to be.
There is time for silence as well as prayer and because you can participate in prayer without necessarily having to speak there is no pressure to say anything. Everyone is welcome.

Sunday Club
Sunday Club, for children aged 3-12 years, runs through the year usually on the second and fourth Sundays of the month, except for Summer school holidays.
At each session there are 2 leaders from the team of 6, all of whom are Disclosure and Barring Service checked and have completed appropriate Safeguarding training courses. The children meet in church at 9.30am and sit with Leaders until it is time to move to the church vestry at the beginning of the service.
The children are escorted back into church to join the congregation for Holy Communion and again the children are encouraged to sit together with the Leaders, to help them feel part of the service. Following Holy Communion the children collectively tell the congregation what they have learned in Sunday Club.
Typical activities include Bible stories, projects and craft activities. There are occasionally additional activities to those on a Sunday, for example taking part in the Nativity at the Christmas Eve Crib Service and the annual trip to the pantomime. The children may bring some money for the offertory each week and this money is used to support two charities:- ·
• Hand in Hand in Ethiopia, a charity working to change the lives of children in Addis Ababa through relieving poverty, providing education and promoting good health. We sponsor a young boy, Yonathan Darge, supporting his education through the charity’s centre and we receive regular updates on his progress and letters from Yonathan.
• Toy Box, a charity working with street children in Latin America. We purchase Toy Box crosses from the charity as a gift to present to newly baptised children.
Children in school Year 3 have the opportunity to be prepared for First Communion, if both child and parents are agreeable. Contact Glenda Winfield for more details at
